GRIT RUTH HANNELORE GLENEWINKEL (ALTENBURG) On October 13, 2011 Grit passed away at the age of 77. Grit was predeceased by her beloved Paul. To cherish her memory are her daughter Ev Franzmann (Jamie), son Tom (Debbie), grandchildren David, Josh (Amber), Niki, granddog River, her brother Bodo Vormeng (Ursela), nephew Michael and family. In Germany her sister Ines Schmidt (Karl Heinz), sister Jeanine Schroder (Heiner), cousins Hanschen and Gisella, sisters-in-law Lena Peck and Inge Glenewinkel as well as many nieces and nephews, and special nephew Sven. Grit was born in Berlin January 28, 1934. She immigrated to Canada June 1953 aboard the MS Skaubryn. Mom landed in Montreal and then came to Winnipeg where she met and married dad. They settled and raised their family in the West End of Winnipeg. Mom worked in a sewing factory, was a Nurses Aide at Health Sciences Centre, worked at Economy Textile, Saan Store and Chicken Delight. But, her most loved job was providing care and love to the numerous children she provided child care to. All our friends were always welcome in our home and loved to hear her stories of her childhood in Berlin. Mom loved her cabin at Hillside Beach and the time spent there with family and friends. She loved Bingo, playing cards, dancing and playing the VLTs at Kellys and the Riverboat. Most of all, she loved being with her family. Our family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Luther Home Day Program, her special home care girls and family and friends who made her lengthy hospital stay easier with their visits. For those of you who couldn't visit, thank you for all your offers to help, for your shoulders to cry on and for just being there and listening. A family and friends celebration of mom's life will be held at a later date. In Grit's memory a donation can be made to a charity close to your heart. Oma, we will miss the love you gave so freely. We will miss your sense of humour. We will miss the smile that lit your face. You were always so thankful for us...but it is us who give thanks for having had you in our lives. Go dance with Opa and the Angels now.
