Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGH DOUGALD MCKNIGHT Hugh McKnight, born in Winnipeg, October 16, 1918, loving husband to Marjorie for 67 years, father to Barry (Kathe), Robin Young (Don) and Jeffrey (Arlene), grandfather to 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren died peacefully September 27, 2011 at almost 93 years of age. Hugh's sisters Shelagh and Valerie, and brother Donald survive him. Hugh grew up in Winnipeg. He served overseas as a lieutenant with the Canadian Army during the Second World War and was a survivor of the Dieppe Raid. After the war Hugh started a plumbing business with his father. Hugh then went on to be the mechanical superintendent on many large construction projects in Manitoba and British Columbia. Hugh was a modest, soft-spoken man. He held precious the priceless things in life - fishing with his buddies, summer days at the lake with his family and quiet moments of reflection as the sun went down. Hugh often expressed his contentment and gratitude for the way his life unfolded. He loved his country, his family and his friends and he especially loved his Marjorie. We will miss his Hughisms and quiet wit, but most of all, we will miss his warm smile. A celebration of Hugh's life will be held at a later date. If you wish, you may make a contribution in Hugh's memory to the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation, 15521 Russell Avenue, White Rock, BC, V4B 2R4 or on online.
