Alma is survived by her daughters, Eleanor (Rick Bond), and Marilyn (Gerry Trowsky), sons Ken (Lorraine), Don, Willard (Opal), and William (Carry), 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Alma also had many adopted family members. Alma was born in Portage on October 26, 1920, and lived her earlier years in Layland, MB, but the majority of her years were spent in Portage. She was a dedicated, kind and loving mother and grandmother who was the heart and soul of a large and adoring family. Without a lot of financial resources, she and her husband John raised seven children and instilled kindness and a strong work ethic in their children. Her wisdom, graciousness, and generosity made a deep impression on the many lives she touched. She celebrated her 74th wedding anniversary on June 13, 2009 prior to the death of her husband John and has continued to remain active with the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Women's League for 20 years. She enjoyed attending church, concerts, and loved shopping. In spite of some health concerns in the last years of her life she continued to live independently and remained the focal point of all family activities. Her strength and determination never ceased to amaze us. Alma influenced many throughout the course of her life and has been and will continue to remain a tremendous inspiration to us all. We who have had a personal relationship with Alma have been truly blessed and will carry a part of her with us into the future.
