Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE SHANNACAPPO (WHITEBIRD) February 5, 1929 - October 15, 2011 On October 15, 2011, at 3:00 a.m., in the morning, Rose made the transition into the spirit world at the age of 82. Rose was predeceased by her husband James, daughter Marlene, parents Sara and Alex, sisters Isabelle and Madeline, brothers Wilfred, Samuel, Herman, and granddaughter Elaine Kasto. Rose is survived by her siblings Mary, Joe, Stanley and Agnes, her children Florence (Donald), Dennis, Douglas, Judy (Percy), Louella (Gerald), Isabelle (Denis), Morris (Sheila), Darren (Shannon), Eva (daughter-in-law), stepson Wayne (Val), 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Rose was a dedicated bus driver for many years insuring the children of the Rolling River First Nation made it to and from school as she knew the importance of a quality education for our children. Rose was a mentor, teacher and friend for all she came into contact with and through her advice and teachings, will leave a lasting legacy for all. Rose enjoyed life in all aspects and loved bingo, singing hymns and hand sewing quality star blankets which led her to start Rosie's Star Cozies . Rose meticulously hand stitched her star blankets with love and dedication and many of these original works of art now grace offices and provide comfort and warmth in homes globally. Although Rose had a very strong Catholic faith, she also embraced her traditional way of life and passed on her knowledge and experience which inspired many to further explore and exercise their cultural way of life. Rose looked at life in a positive manner and always found a solution to benefit all concerned. She was a sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who has left an indelible impression on all of us and for this we are stronger and will be eternally grateful. The journey on the road of life can often be rough and rocky but Rose travelled it patiently and positively and she endured her trials and tribulations gracefully and passed on her experiences to her children, grandchildren and community members as a respected Elder not only in her home community but in all First Nations and urban centres which beckoned her to share her wisdom. Rose was always concerned that when we lose our Elders, we lose a huge part of our history and she took the opportunity to pass on her knowledge and wisdom and she would encourage all to cherish, respect and listen to our elders so our legacies can live on for time immemorial. Rose will be missed and her lasting legacy will be celebrated on Thursday, October 20, 2011 with a Traditional Feast starting at 11:00 a.m. and formal service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Southquill Hall, Rolling River First Nation followed by interment beside her loved ones, friends and acquaintances who have gone on ahead into the Spirit World. Deacon Conrad Plante officiating. Shed not tears of sorrow for me, but rather tears of joy and laughter and celebrate my life; I am only a thought and prayer away and will forever remain within each and every one of you Mino-pimatisik, Shawendik, Baapik.
