ABRENICA June 26, 1946 - October 11, 2011 With extreme sadness the family announces the passing of Virgilio on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre with loving family by his side. Virgilio was born in Sambat, Bauan, Batangas, Philippines and came to Canada as a school teacher in 1973. Then, he decided to change his career. He took courses in Healthcare, Nursing Assistant and Activity Worker. He was employed by West Park Manor and Beacon Hill Lodge for 13 years. In 1992, he worked as an Educational Assistant at Winnipeg School Division for 13 years until ill health forced him to retire. Virgilio is survived by his wife, Claire, daughter, Kristine and son, Kristoffer. He is also survived by his brother Rufino (Ofelia) Abrenica, sisters Remedios Camacho, Lucila (Eduardo) Contreras, Natividad (Merlito) Garcia and Tarcisia Abrenica. Virigilio leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren, numerous cousins, friends and extended families in the Philippines, U.S.A. and Canada. He will be greatly missed. He was a music lover. He enjoyed cooking, telling jokes and having fun. He had a special love for his family. He resided in Winnipeg, MB for 38 years. He savoured every moment of his life with determination, courage and independence. His faith in God prepared him for his journey home. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth (1991), sister, Annesia (1948), father, Alipio (1955), mother, Primitiva (1989) and son-in-law Placido Camacho (1995). A special thanks is extended to all the doctors, nurses, clinical assistants and staff at GA4 of Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre for their care, support, dedication and compassion Virgilio received. Viewing (Lamay) will be held on Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Ave. on Tuesday, October 25 at 9:00 a.m., Rev. Father Ken Barkley Celebrant. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Notre Dame Avenue. A reception will take place at Salakot Fiesta Restaurant, 737 Keewatin Street, Winnipeg following the interment. The Pallbearers will be Gerry Abrenica, Ruben Abrenica, Florante Contreras, Manuel Cron Sr., Gerry Maquimot, and Edwin Rosas. My mom had been very sad when Lola Meding told her that you passed away... Lolo, malayo ka man sa amin, at hindi man po tayo binigyan ng malaking pagkakataon para mag kakilala pa ng mas malalim, isang malaking bahagi po sa pagkatao ko ang makilala kayo ng personal.
