LORNA MAE MARSHALL Lorna Mae Marshall (nee Apland) passed away peacefully on October 15, 2011 at the Poseidon Care Centre. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Gladys and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2010; brothers, Jake, Harry, Arnold, Lawrence; sisters, Sarah, Stella, Edna, Ann, Rose. Lorna, the youngest child of Lars and Emily Apland, was born on February 15, 1928 on the family homestead in Marchwell, Saskatchewan. She was part of a large close knit Norwegian family and was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She moved to Winnipeg in 1946 and began working as a proofreader at the Winnipeg Free Press; a job she loved until her retirement. She married Robert in 1956 and together they shared a love of family, always looking forward to family visits across Canada and especially family reunions. After her retirement she devoted over 1000 hours of volunteer work at Manitoba Cancer Care. She loved to knit and over the years knitted hundreds of Barbie doll outfits and donated them to the Children's Hospital. She was a gentle, caring wife, sister and aunt who touched our hearts. A special thank you to the 5th floor staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for their excellent care, kindness and compassion. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
