IRENE MANDYBURA (nee SOLOMON) Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at age 90 on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in Winnipeg, MB. Predeceased by her husband Mytro in l968 and her siblings Anna, Mary, John, Lena, Stephen, Roman and Mytro. Irene is survived by her son Fred (Cathy), grandchildren John and Cadence; daughter Evelyn (Brian), grandchildren Aaron and Maria. Irene was born on March 7, l921 to Wasyl and Pearl Solomon in Horyn, MB, where she was raised and educated. In 1945 she married Mytro Mandybura and they lived in Toronto, where she worked at the Women's College Hospital Laundry Facility. Moving to Winnipeg in 1949, she met her lifelong friend Tats Okamoto while working at the Burnaby Venetian Factory. In 1953, Irene and Mytro moved to Dauphin to raise their two children, Fred and Evelyn, whom Irene cherished with all her heart. Irene was a very energetic, happy person, always busy doing something. She was a great cook and bakerher homemade bread, borscht and perogies were the best. There was always plenty of food for anyone who stopped by. She had many hobbies, including knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, and sewing. Most of all, she enjoyed her garden, her yard with apple trees she had grown from seed, and watching the birds. In Dauphin: Prayers 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 21 at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Main St. and the funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
