SHARON BROADBENT (Major, CD1, M.S.M., RCAF) May 28, 1957 - October 17, 2011 Suddenly, after a very brief battle with adenocarcinoma, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sharon Broadbent on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 54 years. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her mother Barbara Broadbent (Ian McGlashan); sister Cindy Camp; two nieces, Sarah Corbière (Leigh; great-nephews, Marek and Mathieu), and Lisa Solamillo (Ricky); as well as by four stepsisters, Ann Ahearn, Carol Breland, Wendy Woensdregt, Margaret Legge and their families. She was predeceased by her father (Don) in 1995 and her brother-in-law (Joe Camp) in 1992. As part of a military family, Sharon's early years were spent moving around Canada and the US. In 1966 her family settled in Vancouver and it was there that she graduated from Magee High School in 1974. After six years working for BC Tel, she joined the RCAF as an air traffic controller (ATC). Sharon's 30-year career took her across Canada, to the UK, and the US in a variety of positions. These included actual ATC, progressing to an ATC instructor, editor of the Personnel Newsletter, working in the mountain at Colorado Springs, a year of French Immersion, receiving her degree from RMC in Kingston, attending Staff College in Toronto and, latterly working in 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters in Winnipeg. On Friday, October 21, 2011 Sharon's Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the 17 Wing Chapel, 2235 Silver Avenue @ Whytewold Road, Winnipeg, with Cdr. Robert Humble officiating. A second service and interment will be held later in Vancouver, arrangements to be announced.
