SUSAN GIESBRECHT (nee UNRAU) April 4, 1925 - October 16, 2011 It is with sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Susan (Susanna) Giesbrecht. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter D. Giesbrecht on January 9, 1998. She is survived by her loving children, son Gerry (Nonie) grandson Nathan (Nadine) great-grandchildren Hailey, Caleb Giesbrecht, granddaughter Maegan (Nathan) Fast; daughter Laurie (Karl), grandchildren Dale, Morgan, Justen Loewen and son George (Heidi) granddaughter Olivia Giesbrecht. Also surviving are eight siblings Dick (Margaret) Unrau, Ed (Helen) Unrau, Henry (Mary) Unrau, Katherine (Cornelius) Hildebrand, Anne Wiebe, Helen Holmstrom, Dave (Jeanne) Unrau and Ben (Pat) Unrau as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was a quiet, kind, loving person. As children, Mom made us feel loved and special. Our humble introduction into our parents' lives was God's divine plan. During the course of her life, she nurtured over twenty children from the Children's Aid society. Her home was always open to visitors and many neighbourhood children who loved to have a hug and a cookie. They were also sacrificially helpful to many in the family over the years. She appreciated the fellowship of their dear friends during the many years at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church. We cherish the many family memories, especially camping trips with her brother Dick's family. She did beautiful crocheting and needle work until rheumatoid arthritis limited use of her hands. We also remember Mom for her great cooking and loving to make our favourites - pork butt steaks, rhubarb and blueberry pie, perogies and of course her special cinnamon buns. She also had a real talent with her garden and pickling. Many of our friends would try and negotiate for Mom's pickled beets and mustard pickles. She was also known as Bad Momma Giesbrecht , beating all the teenagers at pool in our basement. After Dad passed away, she enjoyed working with her sons on home renovation projects. Her ingenuity at building and repairing was remarkable. During these years she especially appreciated the special times with her sister Anne. The last several years Mom was afflicted with Alzheimer's. The family extends many thanks to the wonderful staff at both Beacon Hill and Meadowood Manor for their kindness and gentle care of Mom. A service to honour Mom will be held at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011 with interment to follow at the Southside Cemetery in Morden at 3:30 p.m. Viewing Friday, October 21 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, and at the church prior to the service. And the peace of God that passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 Good night sweet Mom.
