DORIS BERNICE YOUNG (nee CHASCHOWY) June 16, 1925 - October 16, 2011 Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Great-Aunt, passed away peacefully, at Vista Park Lodge, in her 87th year. Mom was predeceased by her husband Norman Bruce (1984) and son David William (2008), as well as her 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth (Ronald) and son Jeffrey (Lorraine), daughter-in-law Tannis, grandchildren: Erica, Graeme, Janet, Fraser, Jayne (Oliver) and Leigh-Anne, great-granddaughter Grace, and many nieces and nephews. Mom worked at Swift Canadian and CN Rail before marrying and was a stay-at-home mother. At the age of 45 she went back to school and earned a diploma at Red River Community College prior to re-entering the workforce. She worked at CN Rail and then VIA Rail until her retirement in 1990. Mom was a long-time parishioner at Christ The King, a member of the Catholic Women's League and a former Girl Guide leader. Mom loved to travel with family and friends and visited many places around the world. She enjoyed the Winnipeg Symphony, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Rainbow Stage. She spent most mornings with her coffee and newspaper, faithfully working on the daily puzzles, and even calling long-distance if she was stuck. She was also an avid reader. Special thanks go out to the staff at Dakota House, the Manitoba Home Care Program and Vista Park Lodge for their caring and compassion. A memorial service celebrating Mom's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, in Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, followed by a reception.
