JAMES ROSS (VE4AJR) Peacefully, on October 17, 2011, Jim passed away at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 90. Jim, born in Winnipeg, was predeceased by his father James; his mother Barbra (nee Robertson); his beloved wife Edee (nee Edith Wickberg); and his two brothers, David of Fort Qu'Apelle, SK and George of Spokane, Washington. He is survived by family in Winnipeg, Victoria, BC and Ottawa, ON. Jim developed a passion for flying after graduating from high school and became a pilot. Soon after the outbreak of the Second World War, Jim joined the Air Force and served in Britain training other pilots. Injuries received during his military service terminated further aspirations of a flying career. On returning to Canada, he left the Air Force and worked with the George Weston organization for many years before working for Investors Syndicate, remaining there until his retirement. During his retirement years, Jim travelled across Canada many times in his motor home, visiting family and the many friends he made during his military service. In addition, he was a valued member of the Manitoba Repeater Society, Winnipeg Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Winnipeg Amateur Radio Club and Winnipeg Seniors Radio Club. Words cannot describe Jim's contribution to amateur radio in Winnipeg. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humour and friendship. We celebrate his life and remain grateful for the role Jim played in our lives. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. We wish to extend our thanks to Riverview Health Centre for their care with special mention to nurse Kristina.
