GORDON VICTOR TURNER September 27, 1939 - October 19, 2011 After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Victor Turner, beloved husband, father and grandfather, on October 19, 2011 at Victoria General Hospital. His wife and girls were by his side. Gord leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Dylis, daughters, Lynda, Darlene (Bob), Cathy (Mike); three grandchildren: Stefanie, Grant and Alec; sisters Doreen, Sylvia (Matt) and brother Harvie (Gayle) and many nieces and nephews. Gord is predeceased by his parents, John and Gertrude and his siblings: Evelyn, Jack, Robert, Betty and Norm. He was born in Toronto and moved to Winnipeg in 1962 to join his family in business. In 1982, Gord purchased Niakwa Lanes and built St. Vital Bowl which opened in 1997. Gord was president of the Manitoba Bowling Proprietors, a Rotarian and actively supported his family's activities. Gord loved to golf and was a member of St. Charles Country Club since 1979. Gord enjoyed the comradery, laughter and good times spent with his golf buddies at St. Charles CC, on the greens, in the garden and especially the Saturday morning breakfasts. Gord, along with his wife, Dylis, also cherished participating in the many mixed activities at St. Charles CC. Gord loved to travel and had many incredible vacations with his wife, his family and his friends. This past August to celebrate his 50th Wedding Anniversary Gord, together with the love of his life, Dylis, his children, grandchildren and his sister went on the trip of a lifetime- a Caribbean Cruise. Gord had a big heart filled with love. He spread that love to everyone around him and that love was returned to him, multiplied tenfold. He always saw the good in everyone. Gord was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Buhler Cancer Centre and the Victor General Hospital and everyone who shared their love, kindness and comforting words over the past several months. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Parkinson Society Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
