MATTHEW GORDON MITCHELL May 29, 1949 - October 17, 2011 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith After a brief but valiant battle with cancer, Matt passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 62 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Susan (nee Unger), his three sons Derek, Scott and Jordan, his two sisters Joy Mitchell (and friend Rick Caton), Brenda Therrien (Mike), nephews and niece: Brian Larson (Juanita) and their family, Shayla Murphy (Riley) and Sheldon Therrien. He was predeceased by his parents Bruce and Brenda Mitchell. Matt served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1967-1972 followed by a 37 year career with the City of Winnipeg. He enjoyed his work as Permit Clerk/Special Constable in Public Works, Customer Service implementing systems and progressive change. Matt was never lukewarm in his opinions or endeavours and seized each new venture with fervour. An innate trait of Matt was his talent as a punster. Since his childhood, Matt spent summers at Winnipeg Beach, later creating memories with his sons and Susan at the cabin. His indomitable spirit, optimism, and humour reigned during his illness. Thanks to all involved with his care at Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface, and Victoria Hospitals. Special thanks to Drs. Salem, Daeninck, Ogarenko, Ibrahim and Wall. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I will always remember Matt, even from when he was a child, as someone with a strong sense of humour. Easygoing and likeable, and with good taste as shown in his choosing Sue, a committed believer in the Lord Jesus Christ for his wife. As an adult, he saw his need for, and committed his life to Jesus, the only Saviour of sinners, as my husband and I also did years ago. Matt, we will see you again in glory. "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift." - Posted by: Dayle Johnson (cousin) on: Dec 08, 2012
