He joins in heaven his loving wife, Ruth and his daughter, Maureen. He will be deeply missed by his daughters Linda (Brian) Freeman, Wendy (Lorne) Jamison and Brenda (Alfred) Klein. George was born in Titchfield, England on February 13, 1923. He joined the British Air Force and was stationed in Swift Current, Saskatchewan for training. At a dance in one of the neighbouring towns he met Ruth and they were married on October 19, 1943. After the war, he returned to England and once he was discharged he came to Winnipeg and worked at the CNR as an Express Porter working his way up to Supervisor of Computer Billings. After 34 and a half years he retired at the age of 58. George enjoyed sports. He not only loved to watch football, soccer and hockey but was actively involved in curling and golfing. His morning coffee buddies, his golfing friends and his many furry four-legged companions will sadly miss him. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital ICU for their kindness and compassionate care. A celebration of George's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
