SULBHA BHASIN August 2, 1920 - October 19, 2011 With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Sulbha Bhasin at the age of 91. She was a loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and a truly great soul. Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, during the afternoon hours, she passed away after having some respiratory problems at the hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Pradeep (Asha), Praveen (Priya), Pramila (Raj), Praful (Sudha), and Pramod (Lata). She will also be affectionately missed by her grandchildren Manav, Poonam, Saurabh, Sherry, Ankit, Akshat, and Mahima, along with her great-grandchild, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Sulbha Bhasin was born and raised in Rawal Pindi, pre-partition India. Her father's name was Wazir Chand Chopra and her mother was Saraswati Devi Chopra. Her father was a lawyer and the president of Arya Samaj Mandir. She had five other siblings, who were doctors, lawyers, professors, and government officials. She did her schooling at Arya Kanya and she graduated with Prabhakar and Ratna Bhushan degrees. She got married in 1943 to Gopal Dass, they moved to New Delhi, and they had five children. She helped her husband run a restaurant in the 1950s, and lived as a good housewife. She did lots of work for the people in her community too. She was well-travelled within India, and in 1994, she went aboard to Winnipeg with her husband and two of her sons. However, her sons returned to India, and she has been living with her daughter Pramila and family for the past 16 years. She assisted with her daughter's business a lot, and she raised her grandson Ankit in Canada. She visited India almost every year as well. Sulbha was fond of cooking and reading, and she was very pious and religious. Lovingly called Mama, she was a simple-natured, sharp-minded, healthy, loving, honest, patient, and peaceful person. She will be thoughtfully remembered by her family and friends. The family wishes to extend thanks to all relatives and friends that have offered their condolences for her. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray, followed by Shanti Path at 6:30 p.m. in the Hindu Temple at 999 St. Anne's Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sulbha's memory to the Hindu Society of Manitoba. Thomson In the Park 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
