ERNEST LOUIS BACON April 12, 1920 - October 18, 2011 Ernie, only son of Louis and Virginie Bacon, was born in The Pas, Manitoba. After a four year stint in the R.C.A.F. he and his wife, Helen, whom he married October 26, 1942, settled in Winnipeg, where he owned and operated his own truck. He was well known around Winnipeg for his shiny red truck and speedy deliveries, while Helen counted cash at the TD Bank. Ernie and Helen were members of St. Matthews Anglican Church in Winnipeg for many years. They both retired in 1982 and spent their summers at Chadwick Lake, ON and their winters in Victoria, BC. In 1994 they bought a manufactured home in Lannon Creek Park, Sooke, BC. Ernie loved all animals; feeding birds, squirrels and taking in stray cats. Ernie died peacefully in Victoria General Hospital. He is survived by wife Helen; sisters-in-law Janet Grice, Billy Kneale (Jim), Pat Ambrose and their families; as well as dear friends Martin and Kathy Knight, Missy and Bunny. He was predeceased by his sister Eva. Memorial Services to be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Sooke, BC. No flowers please, and instead feed the birds in memory of Ernie.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I wish to convey my condolences to Helen and family. I never had the pleasure of meeting these relatives, but many stories were passed on to me through my mother Leola and uncles on the Langlois side. The aunties & uncles were close to each other in The Pas in early days. Ernie's father & his mother Virginie (Eugine Langlois in French) owned "BACONS TWO BIT FLOP" a rooming house in the beginning of Le Pas, MB (District of Keewatin) early years. The moved later to Winnipeg and owned a rooming House there. Louis & Jean Baptiste Bacon owned four Trading Posts between Cedar Lake & Moose Lake. They were commercial fishermen and the Bacon name is applied to Bacon Lake, Bacon Ridge, Bacon Point. They must be proud of their families accomplishments during their lifetime. Be proud to be connected to this good family whom helped build the beautiful northern province! Take Care & God Bless the family Irene Davie - Posted by: Irene Davie (Great Cousin - Leola Langlois's daughter (Virginie Bacon - nee Langlois was my grandfathers sister)) on: Jan 08, 2019
