MARIE PATRICIA CHERNETSKY With grace and dignity, and family by her side, Marie performed her last dance on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Health Sciences Centre M.I.C.U. She was 84 years young and very honoured to have lived a full and happy life. Marie was born in Walkleyburg, MB on May 15, 1927. She obtained her teacher's certificate at the age of 18. In 1945 she was teaching at Arnold School in Libau, and this is where she met her sweetheart, Harvey. They were married in 1949. They lived in Dencross where they started their family life and enjoyed 13 happy years. In 1962, they moved to East Selkirk where many more cherished friendships were developed. She resumed her career in education with the Lord Selkirk School Division and retired after 28 years of devoted service. She enjoyed home tutoring with several young people who remained in touch with her over the years. Mom had a deep respect for all her co-workers and their common goal to educate for success! Her motto "Always look for the best in people and accept them for who they are", blessed her with many life-long friendships. Mom believed in being of service to others, by helping in any way she could. She was a support for anyone who needed her. She enjoyed dancing, travelling, playing cards, pinching perogies, lunching with friends, giving out advice and solving world issues. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her four grandchildren. She loved being a part of their lives, watching them grow to be adults, cheering on their successes, sharing her wisdom and teaching them that laughter is the best medicine. Mom kept us laughing to the end. Even though her sudden, brief illness was difficult to accept, God blessed her with the ability and opportunity to communicate her love and memories of everyone who touched her life. She will be deeply missed by her loving children Randy (Audrey) Chernetsky, Ryan Chernetsky, Charlotte (Horst) Welk and her precious grandchildren Jenna Chernetsky, Vanessa (Mike) Ellis, Sarah and Curtis Welk. She will be forever loved and missed by her three sisters, Sophie (Tony) Ruptash, Carrie Novalski, Anne Kotack and her sisters-in-law Irene Banash, Annie and Leah Chernetski. Her passing will also leave a great emptiness for numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Harvey, parents Andrew and Mary Banash, Bernard and Eva Banash, Jean and John Stepanzak, Francis and Nick Kuprowski, John Banash, Rudy Novalski and John Kotack. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the entire care team at Selkirk General Hospital and the M.I.C.U. Team at the Health Sciences Centre. Thank you for the care and compassion you provided Mom and her family while she was in hospital. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held to honour Marie's life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, East Selkirk, MB. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery, East Selkirk. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Marie's memory to either East Selkirk Cemetery Fund, care of Stella Dubas, RR#1-RMB1, East Selkirk, MB R0E 0M0 or M.S. Society of Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
