RONALD J. SMELA The family of the late Ron J. Smela sadly announce the passing of our brother on October 26, 2011. This was a result of a traumatic brain injury, due to a fall. He was 60 years of age. He was predeceased by his father Edward; mother Elizabeth, and older brother Ken. Ron will be sadly missed and remembered by his siblings: Joyce (Cecil), Linda, Jane (Dwight), Darcy (Connie), Dennis (Dorothy), Gail, and Sharon (Teo), and the many nieces and nephews as well. Ron chose his profession in police sciences. He graduated with honours from the prestige Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. He then became a police constable for the City of Regina, SK. As time progressed, Ron moved back to Winnipeg and was employed in a variety of fields. Ron enjoyed the company he kept. He was well received and could relate to many, both business people and friends. As per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside memorial will be at a later time. The family wishes to thank the many skilled health care staff at Health Sciences Centre, mainly neurosurgeons, Doctors West and Phillips, for advice and guidance in this matter.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My brother Ron was a mystery to me while growing up as he was ahead of me by many years. He did accomplish educational goals in police services which I admire. Ron struggled with mental health and lived his life , not as he preferred but as he could. I always longed for a relationship with him but found a ravine between us that short time could not bridge. I am thankful for those whose good company he did keep and helped him along when they could. Rest in peace brother with my Lord Jesus, I trust. • One year and a month has passed since my brother, Ron, died from a traumatic brain injury. Life as we know is full of experiences, many thoughts and opinions and Ron had many. Ron you were short in years, just like our Dad but we still think of you always. Darcy Smela, brother - Posted by: Darcy Smela (Brother) on: Nov 25, 2012

  • My late older, when growing up, was a role model towards many of us. He did set an example towards educational excellence. He had a likeable personality and enjoyed being around his family. Its unfortunate, however, he died to soon. Still, he will be missed and we will always love him. - Posted by: dennis smela (brother) on: Nov 24, 2012
