BERYL ELLEN CUDDY (nee COUTTS) It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Beryl Cuddy, who died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg on October 28, 2011 at the age of 89. Beryl will be deeply missed by her husband Tom Cuddy, her three children, Norm (Rose) Cuddy, Lauren Cuddy and her partner Terry Mitchell, and Ron (Lorna) Cuddy, and five grandchildren, Judy Kemp, John Kemp, Thomas Cuddy, Sean Jirgens and Russell Jirgens. Beryl is predeceased by her brother Bill Coutts and her dear Aunt Bud Ramsey, and leaves behind her sister Joyce Coutts. She will also be deeply missed by her cousins Betty (Jerry) Ferguson, Bob (Clara) Ramsey and Donna Brown, who were like brothers and sisters to her. Beryl was born in Carberry, Manitoba on July 28, 1922, beloved daughter of Norman and Nita Coutts. She grew up in Carberry, where she was one of the first telephone operators and wrote for the local newspaper. There she met her future husband, Tom Cuddy and they married in 1949. They initially ran an appliance store in Carberry where their first son, Norman, was born. In 1953 they moved to Sudbury, Ontario where Lauren was born and then moved back to Winnipeg in 1956 for the birth of Ron. Beryl and Tom spent many happy years in Winnipeg, where Beryl was the librarian at Balmoral Hall, active in the Windermere United Church in Fort Garry and the head of C.G.I.T. Beryl and Tom moved to Calgary in 1971 where she continued her career in library services and they eventually moved back to Winnipeg in 2000. For 20 years, they spent their winters in Phoenix, Arizona, where they made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed their retirement. For the past three years, they have enjoyed life at Riverwood Square in Fort Garry. Beryl's greatest joys were her family and friends, of which she had a great many. She loved to spend time at the family cottage at Delta Beach and then at Sioux Narrows. She had a passion for literature and politics and could hold her own on any topic of the day. Friends will remember Beryl's generosity and fun-loving spirit and her love of entertaining. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria General for their care and compassion during Beryl's time there. Memorial service will take place at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or the Canadian Cancer Society. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
