DAVID LLOYD PHILIP STATTIN January 12, 1945 - October 11, 2011 It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce David's passing Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton at the age of 66, with his son Jason by his side. David leaves to cherish his memory, his only son Jason of Edmonton, AB, sisters Phyllis Shindak, Winnipeg, MB; Wallianna (Doug) Sheardown, Red Deer, AB; Lori Cruickshank, Winnipeg, MB; brother Randy (Debbi) Edson, AB, as well as many nieces/nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Philip and Helen and sister Julia Richardson and brothers-in-law; Alex Richardson, Nick Shindak and Brian Cruickshank. David was born in Winnipeg and did most of his school life at Fisher River School, Koostatak, MB where his parents had a business. After his family obtained a second home in Winnipeg, he then attended Victory School, West Kildonan Collegiate and one year at St. Joseph Academy, Yorkton, SK. After finishing school he travelled to British Columbia to explore work, but eventually returned to Manitoba where he married, and had his son Jason. David worked for his father grain farming, driving Stattin's Transfer and assisting in his dad's general store. Eventually David moved his family to Winnipeg where he worked at various jobs such as Perth's Dry Cleaning, Gabbrielli's Gift Shop, Radio Shack, as an insurance adjuster, and then Odjig Indian Print's. In 1980, David moved his family to Edson, AB. While in Edson, he worked at Luscar Coal Valley Resources and his own business called Hammer Works. David left Edson and moved to Edmonton where he took up what turned out to be his passion. He became a long-haul truck driver, working for various transport companies running Canada and United States wide, and lastly hauling hazardous liquids. David loved his travelling, taking photos, seeing the country, but especially all the great people he encountered. He was an amazing story teller and magnet for getting into situations on and off the road, which made his impromptu passing visits something that we will all miss. On his days off he loved watching Coronation Street and videos. A generous man with a big heart, my Dad our Brother, we love you. A family gathering to celebrate David's life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice. Vichnaya Pamyat/Rest In Peace

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • David and I met in Winnipeg in our teens, and we hung around the North End, and Koostitak together, and made many great road trips during our 'growing up years'. Then, as life goes, we went our separate ways, me to the West Coast and David up to Alberta. I only learned of his passing yesterday, but don't think for a minute that these late words reflect in any way on the deep respect and love I had for David. He was man with a great heart, always ready with a smile, even in the worst of times. He was incredibly hard working, and he was also religious, and it showed not only in his prayers but also by how he treated others. He was the finest human being and a great inspiration. I will never forget the sunny and warm days when he, and I took turns towing each other around on a piece of plywood behind an old aluminum boat on that beautiful river in Koostatak, trying our best to 'water ski' with what he had, laughing the whole time as that piece of old wood dumped us in the warm summer water. I will also never forget, the hard but sweet days we had, working together on a stoneboat, collecting boulders, while his Father drove the tractor, his back covered in mosquitoes. I remember his Mother's cooking and kindness, and I fondly remember all of the members of his family I had the privilege to meet; and of course I heard good things about Jason, his son. It is with the deepest regret that I hear that David passed at such a young age, but even though my message is late, I could not remain silent, and I offer my sincere condolences to Jason, and all the members of Davids family. I knew him for a time, and even though life took us our separate ways, I will never forget David, and feel honoured and blessed that I met him and had some incredible years with him. May he rest in peace and be held dearly by the Almighty in Heaven. - Posted by: N Michael Ross (previously Nicholas Synenko) (Old Friend) on: Nov 22, 2017
