HAZEL ELAINE FARMER Hazel Elaine Farmer (nee Buchanan), of Dauphin, passed away at the Dauphin Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the age of 83 years. Hazel was born on July 3, 1928 at Ogilvie, Manitoba to Clifton and Bertha Buchanan. She attended Soudan and Gladstone schools. In 1945, she married Elmer Farmer. Together they raised four children. They resided in Gladstone until 1949, then Melita for five years, and Brandon for 11 years. In 1965, they moved to Dauphin where she lived for the rest of her life. Hazel loved family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Family get-togethers were always a highlight. Her sense of humour was infectious and any time the family was together she was always involved in some activity that resulted in gales of laughter and good times. She instilled a sense of fun-loving and joy of life in all of us. She maintained her sense of humour throughout her illness. Hazel and Elmer took many camping holiday trips with their children, passing on their love of travel to us. She and Elmer also enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the United States, as well as Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. They also travelled south to Arizona for several winters. Hazel was a talented seamstress and quilter. Family members were the recipients of her beautiful quilts which will be cherished forever. From the time she was a child, Hazel loved to dance. Hazel and Elmer spent many happy times, square dancing and round dancing, which they did for close to 50 years. Many of their closest friendships were made through their love of square dancing. Hazel was predeceased by her parents as well as sister Jean in childhood. She is survived by her husband Elmer; sons Raymond (Kathy) of Dauphin, Dale (Darlene) of Carstairs, AB, Garth (Karen) of Indian Head, SK; daughter Shelby (Bill) of Oakbank; grandchildren Karyn, Jarad, Ronna, Rob, Megan, Kelly, Sara, Laura, Lindsay, step-grandchildren, Maeghan and Rebecca; great-grandchildren Sara, Ursula, Jordan, Hayden, Makenna, Zachary, Walker, Andrew, Julia, Kayleigh, Rowan, Holden, and Mason, and great-great-grandchild, Jayme; sisters-in-law Iris (Albert) Rink of Melita, Ivy Charles of Carmen and Mary Farmer of Dauphin; brothers-in-law Wesley Farmer of Gladstone and Kenneth Farmer of Portage La Prairie. Sincere appreciation is extended to friends, home care and hospital staff, and Doctors Penrose and Matheson for all their dedication and care.
