Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIDA SMORDIN October 10, 1912 - October 6, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Smordin on October 6, 2011 at the Simkin Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey, her parents Louis and Kate Meyerowitz, her brother Harry, and her daughter Ruthie. She is survived by her sons, Lyle (Evita) and Don (Frances), her sister Hilda Steiman, and her brother Sam Meyerowitz (Cecile). She is also survived by five granddaughters, Jodi Binnun (Israel), Francyn Martini (Adam), Marni Tselos (Alex), Sandee Smordin (Jeff) and Lesley Smordin (Jason), and her 11 loving great-grandchildren. Ida grew up in Elmwood, the eldest of four children. She married Harvey in 1935. After a brief career, she devoted herself to maintaining her home and raising her family. She made many friends through her participation in charity organizations and the local bridge communities in both Saskatoon and Winnipeg. She was a Life Master in competitive Contract Bridge, and was a popular partner for many Bridge competitions. After leaving the apartment she and Harvey had shared on Powers Street for many years, she moved to Amber Meadow, and then to the Simkin Centre. Ida was outgoing and involved herself socially at both residences, until failing health restricted her activities. Ida was a loving wife, and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an independent spirit who faced adversity with resilience and practicality. Her strength of spirit was an inspiration to all of us. She lived long, well and happily, and her longevity was a blessing to everyone in her life. She will be missed. Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 9 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with Rabbi Alan Green presiding together with Cantor Anibal Mass. The family wishes to thank the staff at Weinberg 1 at the Simkin Centre for their excellent care during Ida's last days. We also extend a special thank you to her caregiver Rosa Chicas and to her close friend Ruth Gutkin.
