Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY GISLASON (nee SNIFELD) 1924 - 2011 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Emily Gislason (Snifeld), on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the age of 87. Emily will be missed by her daughters, Sharon (Jerry) and Shirley (Lorne). She was a wonderful Amma to Joseph (Kelly), Stuart, Michael (Gwen), Amanda (Kevin), and Steven, and a loving Lang Amma to August. She is survived by her sisters Sigurbjorg, Sigurros, Beatrice and sister-in-law Lillian; also sisters-in-law, Toby and Stina. Emily was predeceased by her husband Steve, great-granddaughter Jackie Lynn, and her brothers Kristjan, Albert, John and Julius. Emily was born on April 21, 1924 and was raised at Finns, MB. In 1948, she married Steve Gislason and together they raised their daughters on a small mixed farm in the Framnes area near Arborg. Their strong belief in community involvement led her to be a member of the Framnes Ladies Aid, a leader in the local 4-H Club, the Arborg Ag Society, and a support to Steve as he served on all of his committees and boards. She enjoyed sewing when her girls were young. Later on took up crafting, knitting and crocheting. Curling was a big part of her life. She was a ladies and mixed league member. And in her later years, was an avid armchair curler. But her Blue Bombers, and her Jays came a close second to curling. She loved being an Amma. She followed their sports, baked in anticipation of their visits, knit blankets for them all, and loved their antics. As they became adults, she enjoyed discussing sports, and hearing about their daily lives. In 2002, Steve and Emily moved to the Sunrise Lodge in Arborg. And her wildest dreams came true when both her girls (and retired husbands) settled in Arborg. She was so thankful to have them nearby, and spoke with them daily on the phone. Our heartfelt thanks to Rose, Holly, Christina, Brenda, and the Home Care Staff for the excellent care and friendship that you gave our Mom. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Arborg Community Hall. If friends so desire, donations may be made to The Arborg Community Cemetery, Box 713, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
