HECTOR DUGAS It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hector Dugas on October 30, 2011, with his family by his side at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 89. Hector will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Louise, Cécile (Denis), and Gisèle (Roger), sons Gilles (Jean), and Alain (Michele), grandchildren Darren (Joanne), Darcy, Rachelle (Joël), Paul (Tenille), Jodie, Jeanette, great- grandchildren Jade, Braeden, Ella, Amélie, Luka and Celina, sisters Marie Jeanne (Lucien), Thérèse (Laurent), and Anna; also survived by sisters-in-law Soeur Simone, Hélèna, Rita and brother-in-law Arthur (Laurette) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Gabrielle, his parents Ildas and Clémentine, sister Jacqueline, brothers Alphonse, Gérard, and Côme. Hector was born in Lorette, Manitoba, worked on the family farm until age 18 when he left to work in Armstrong, Ontario as a lumberjack. At age 22 he met the love of his life Gabrielle, whom he married in 1946 celebrating 63 years of marriage. Always the hard working man Hector drove a milk truck for Petit Transfer and later excelled in his employment at Manitoba Pool Elevators, until his retirement in 1980. For the next 30 years, he became a true craftsman with his innate woodworking skills. A man of simple pleasures, he gave of himself willingly, volunteering and helping anyone in need. An extrovert at heart, he always had a story to tell, a joke to make, enjoying the company of all that crossed his path. Dad was a caring and loving husband and father; his family was everything to him. Even his leisure pursuits included providing for his family with his hobby farm and extraordinary garden. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. His caring heart stopped beating, his hard working hands are now at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. Eulogies of dad's life will be read at 11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4 at St. Eugene Church, 1007 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB. Special thanks to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital Emergency and 5th floor, especially Dr. Ian Thorlakson, Amy and Teena. Very special thanks also to the exceptional staff at Actionmarguerite (St. Vital) Inc. - Foyer Valade. Their compassion and kindness over the last three years were truly remarkable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hector's memory to Actionmarguerite (St. Vital) Inc., 450 River Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2M 5M4.
