PAUL ALFRED HERRIOT August 15, 1930 - October 31, 2011 Peacefully, with his wife and loving family at his side, Paul left us to be with his savior. Paul's memory will be cherished by Frances, his wife of 59 years, by his children Paula (Michael) Eileen (Hugh) Susan (Henry) Matthew, Alex (Chantal), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, sisters-in-law Pat Duke and Lex Herriot, and many nieces and nephews. Central to Paul's life were his family and his faith. Paul was born and raised in St. Vital and made his home there for most of his life. Although not a carpenter, he built their first family home and their summer cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake. Throughout his life, Paul was actively involved in the Catholic Church and was a role model of faith in action for all who knew him. Paul made many contributions to the Winnipeg business community, serving as president of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and the Winnipeg Executive Association. His career was in advertising where he was instrumental in forming the Advertising Standards Bureau of Manitoba. He also taught a course on ethics in advertising at the University of Manitoba. In 1969 he took a break from advertising to serve as Special Assistant to Premier Walter Weir. Paul was quite an athlete in his youth; he quarterbacked the St. Paul's Crusaders to a championship and later coached juvenile football. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing, curling, hunting and fishing. The family is thankful for the kindness and care Paul received at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Paul lived a long and blessed life, and was a gift to all who knew him. His kindness and generosity will live on long after his passing as he donated his eyes for medical research and education. Cremation has taken place and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, Osborne and Arnold at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or the M.S. Society of Manitoba, 100-1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
