ROBERT BRUCE DE JONG On November 1, 2011 Bob De Jong passed away at the age of 45 at Riverview Health Facility surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved son of Gertrude and Bruce De Jong, beloved partner of Karen Hornan, adored brother of Tara-Lee, Edward (Edna) De Jong, cherished father of his son Cameron (Monique), much loved uncle of Kristine and Edward Junior De Jong. His many friends of Riverview and of 15 Kennedy will fondly remember him. Bob De Jong grew up in Transcona, where he enjoyed playing outdoor sports, hockey being one of his favourites. Later he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in his young years of 23. He did not let this disease stop him from enjoying life. He moved to 15 Kennedy a facility that promotes independent living. There he met many great people who over the years became close friends. These friends often accompanied him on trips to Mexico. There they would have fun eating and gazing out at the incredible blue waters of the beaches. As life got a bit harder for him he moved to Riverview, a care facility that also promotes independent living. While living here he got to meet more wonderful people who also became great friends. Wherever Bob went he had an impact on the people he would meet. His positive energy would radiate off of him onto others. He also left you with a smile. This was one of the special qualities about him. His other qualities were his presence which would light up a room and make you feel loved. He didn't believe in stressing over small things which made one feel at ease to be around him. He shared his zest for life with everyone who got to know him. We would like to give a special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and the people of 2East Riverview. Your kindness and support gave us strength at times when we had none. At times we don't always show our appreciation but you are very much indeed appreciated, not only in our hearts but also for the amazing work that you do. A memorial service has taken place and a private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
