ALAN YOUNG
Born: May 27, 1932
Date of Passing: Oct 31, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALAN YOUNG May 27, 1932 - October 31, 2011 It is with sadness we announce that Alan passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Grace Hospital. For the past eight years he experienced the challenges of living with Parkinson's disease. Alan is survived by his loving wife Catherine; children Laurie (Wayne), Cathy, and Bill (Linda); grandsons Shohn (Kerry), Jeff (Krissy), Justin, and Bryce; great-grandchildren Kaitlynn, Brittany, Sierra, Mathew, Karlee, and Tyler. He was predeceased by his father William (1965), mother Irene (2004) and son Gordon (2001). Other than the years spent working in Toronto and Edmonton, Alan lived his life in Winnipeg. In the early years, he was an electrician with C.N.R. In 1958 he began his long and distinguished career in the Insurance industry, working for Federated Insurance, Canadian Indemnity, M.P.I.C., and Advocate General. He earned his fellowship and was also an instructor at the Insurance Institute of Canada. At the age of 50 Alan achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, a passion he continued with well into his retirement. He was actively involved in the community as a hockey coach, baseball pitcher, and as his health deteriorated, Alan enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, however his greatest gift to others was when he donned his long white beard and bright red suit at Christmas. Alan will be remembered for many things, his sharp wit, wicked humour and unassuming manner. He will be sorely missed. In keeping with Alan's wishes, a gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, St. James. There are too many people to thank but special thanks go to the Grace Hospital 3 South Doctors and Staff, Dr. B. Rumbolt of the Assiniboine Clinic, and Dr. D. Hobson, of the Movement Disorder Clinic for their compassionate care and understanding. Donations may be made, in memory of Alan, to a children's charity of your choice.
