EDWARD KRISKOW Peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Misericordia Health Centre, Edward Kriskow, aged 77 years, was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Edward was born on September 22, 1934, in Ozarna, Manitoba. Edward will be deeply missed by his longtime friend Sylvia Misanchuk, numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Caroline (Kowalick) and Stanley Kriskow and brother Chester. In 1950, the family moved to Erickson, MB, Hilltop District. After leaving the farm, Ed went to Minnedosa for a short time. He then moved to Winnipeg after his mother passed away in 1959. Edward worked for Dominion Lumber Winnipeg from 1961 to 1964 and part time at Sterling Glove Co. in 1962. From 1966 to 1970 he worked at Middlechurch Nursing Home. Due to kidney failure, Edward went on dialysis for over 3 years. On October 22, 1975, he received the greatest gift of his lifetime- a new kidney from a generous donor. Edward returned to work in 1976, and was employed at the Hotel Fort Garry as a parking lot attendant until late summer 1979. It was at that time he decided to retire from work. While still working at the Hotel Fort Garry, Edward met up with his nephew Lloyd and wife Zenova Shindruk. Thereafter, the Shindruk family played a big role in his life. He shared many special occasions and holiday dinners at their home. Ed's great-nephew Sheldon helped with numerous jobs around his home. In 2003, Edward had hip surgery which started to slow him down. Years later he was stricken with severe arthritis and his health went on a rapid decline. In February 2011, Edward had no choice but to give up the home he so loved and moved into an interim personal care home in March 2011. At Misericordia, he met some new friends. Edward attended Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church regularly when he was in good health. He was a kind, gentle and soft spoken person. Being a very generous person with his time and his money, he was always willing to help others, without being asked. He was meticulous in whatever job he was doing. Loyalty and trust made up his character. If he was your friend, you were truly blessed. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Winnipeg, with Fr. I. Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9 at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Jackfish, MB with Fr. James deBeer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edward's favourite charity, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, #1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4, or St. Nicholas Church, Elevator Fund, 737 Bannerman Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R2X 1J9. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the caregivers at Misericordia Health Centre, Cornish 5; Fathers Zachary and Isidore at St. Nicholas Church for their spiritual visits and blessings, especially during his final day. Fr. Isidore, thank you for always making Edward feel special. Thanks to cousin Eliza Hrushowy for cheering up Edward with your long distance talks from BC. My deepest gratitude to all the team (past and present) at Health Sciences Centre Renal Clinic for helping give Ed extended life with a kidney transplant. Thanks Alyson for your patience and help in February of this year. A profound thank you to my dear friend Laura Austin for being there when we needed you most. Thank you to cousin Joe Kowalick and all the pallbearers. God bless you all. Edward is now reunited forever with his special pal, Trinket. I didn't want you to suffer, And I didn't want you to go. And I know I must release you, but my heart will never let you go. Special friends become special memories. LOVINGLY REMEMBERED VICHNAYA PAMYAT REST IN PEACE KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
