BABYNEC May 9, 1922 - November 3, 2011 Helen Babynec of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died peacefully at Concordia Hospital on November 3, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Helen was predeceased by her husband Bernie in 2009, and daughter-in-law Gillian in 2000. She was also predeceased by brothers, Miron, Walter, and Ernie and a sister in infancy. She is survived by sons, Ernest and Richard; granddaughters, Anastasia Ziprick (Jonathon) of Walterloo, and Alexandra Babynec of Adelaide. She also leaves her much beloved great-granddaughter, Gillian. Helen was born in Winnipeg to Maksym and Ksenia Lewicki. She resided in Winnipeg's North End, attending King Edward and Isaac Newton schools, and then commercial college. Helen married Bernie in 1943, and they had over 66 wonderful years together. In 1960, they built a home on Rossmere Golf Course, overlooking the 16th hole; they remained there for over 50 years. Helen was employed by the Ukrainian Fraternal Society for many years. She attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for over 50 years. Helen was one of the most wonderful, kind, caring and generous people in the world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A special thanks to neighbours Gerry and Joan Macdonald, and Viola Wade and Roy Davidson for all their help and care over the past couple of years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. According to Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family internment.
