ALVIN JAMES ROSS September 7, 1946 - November 4, 2011 On November 4, 2011, surrounded by tear-filled eyes of family and friends, the heavens rejoiced at Alvin's arrival as Jesus spoke the words well done, my good and faithful servant . Alvin James Ross was born on September 7, 1946 in Teulon, Manitoba to Mel and Merle Ross. He grew up on the farm in Hodgson, Manitoba and attended Marble Ridge School. In his early teens Alvin quit school to help his father on the farm. At the age of 16, he made a commitment to serve the Lord. He attended church in his young years at the Hodgson Bible Chapel. In 1977, Alvin fell in love and married Wanda Kay Bruns of Morris, Minnesota. Alvin and Wanda raised three sons on the farm in Hodgson; Adam Jamie was born in 1979, Corydon Paul in 1981 and Perry Melvyn in 1986. He had a love for the land and enjoyed farming and machinery. In his quiet time, Alvin spent many hours drawing, studying the bible and meditating on things of the Lord. Alvin cherished the time he spent with his sons whether it was working with them on the farm or coaching their hockey teams. He served on the Interlake and Fisher Branch Minor Hockey Boards. Through his community involvement and custom work it allowed him to make many friends throughout the Interlake region. People were drawn to Alvin because of the love of Jesus they saw in him. All his friends and neighbours knew the door was always open and the tea pot was always on which often led to extended tea breaks. The call on his life to serve God led him to help in numerous churches in Winnipeg, Peguis, Fisher River, and Hodgson. Over the past few years he helped establish a church in Fisher Branch which in Alvin's clever words he personally named The Church . Alvin will be sadly missed by his loving wife Wanda and sons Adam, Corydon (Celine) and Perry (Julianne); father and mother-in-law, Paul and Joan Bruns of Morris, Minnesota; brother and sisters-in-law, Sheila Kaehler (Keith) and Jerry Bruns (Kathy) both of Morris, Minnesota; Bill Bruns (Teresa) of Bemidji, Minnesota; brother-in-law Herman Weik of Arborg, Manitoba; Aunt Edith Ross of Winnipeg, Manitoba; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Also left behind is Amanda Clarke, who in 2006 gave a special donation of her stems cells which extended Alvin's life. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Mel and Merle Ross, and sister Ellen Weik. His twinkling blue eyes and mischievous smile will be missed by us all. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:13 A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Wide World of Faith Church, 465 Alexander Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fisher Branch Community Centre, Fisher Branch, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Palliative Care Fund at the Percy E. Moore Hospital, Hodgson, Manitoba, R0C 1N0. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ismail, nurses and staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital as well as the doctors and nurses of CancerCare Manitoba for all their love, compassion and care shown to Alvin and family. • I think about you more and more as the months pass, recalling memories and lots of the things you taught me. I miss hearing your stories, your laughter, your jokes. I'll have a problem and want to call upon your wisdom....but I can't pick up the phone anymore to call you. I miss you terribly, we all do. Manitoba feels so empty when I go back there, and the world seems a little more dull. Till I see You in my dreams again, I love you Dad. - Posted by: Adam (son) on: Aug 14, 2012
