Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE ROSE (KAY) LILLIE (nee RAHIER) February 17, 1920 - November 6, 2011 After suffering a stroke six years ago, her spirit is now released from the bounds of a fettered body to be useful again and reunite with those who have passed on before. Catherine or Kay was born on February 17, 1920 to Belgian and English immigrant parents, Servais and Isabella Broomfield Rahier in the small town of Carlton, near Rosthern, SK. She spent her early life on the farm. At the age of 18 she left Saskatchewan and went to work with her Uncle Bill in Binscarth, MB, and then on to Silverton where she met her husband Charles Earl Gray Lillie, who predeceased her in May of 1988. Kay worked for many years as a retail clerk at the Metropolitan Store in downtown Winnipeg, from which she retired in 1988. She loved people and for many years she hosted a Christmas party for those who were separated from family and friends during the holiday season. She was a wonderful cook, a great seamstress, a creative writer and an avid reader. As children we will especially miss playing games and completing puzzles with her, her boiled chocolate icing, her lemon meringue and banana cream pies, and her matrimonial squares. She is survived by four children, Leonard (Jean) of Milton, ON; Doreen Bennett (Brian) of St. Albert, AB; Sharon Hewlett (Steve) of Salt Lake City, UT; and Brian (Myrna) of Spruce Grove, AB. One son, Cyril predeceased her in November 2004. Also surviving her are 22 wonderful grandchildren and 24 beautiful great-grandchildren, her brother George (Eva) of Penticton, BC, and sisters Marguerite (Cecil) Crowe of Edmonton, AB, Angela (Andy) Quinn of Winnipeg, Letty (Al) Sawchenko of Port Coquitlam, BC, and Theresa (Art) Hine of Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by one sister and three brothers. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. As a family, we are deeply grateful to all the friends and neighbours who supported our Mother throughout her life and especially during the last six years following her stroke. We would also like to thank the staff of Oakview Place for her care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. The funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the corner of Ness Avenue and Sturgeon Road, Winnipeg (St. James). Interment will follow immediately at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue (immediately west of the Perimeter Highway). Mother always wanted to go home and now she is HOME.
