Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT ANDREW FRED LOUGHERY 1966 - 2011 On November 6, 2011, the lights dimmed and the curtains closed as Robert Andrew Fred Loughery slipped away peacefully into the morning light. Rob's rock and roll debut began on October 11, 1966. He adored his loving parents Norman and Nellie and was the middle sibling to his older sister Sue and his younger brother Geoff. Growing up in St. James as a kid in the 1970s, Rob's passion for music began to emerge. His thirst for music was ignited by his sister's musical tastes and the excitement of scouring through countless vinyl. A few years later, Rob passed the musical torch down to Geoff and the siblings had many good years together navigating through Winnipeg's bustling music scene in the 1980s and 1990s. The rebellious tone and image of rock and roll was appealing to Rob and he followed the spotlight wherever it shone. Though never on stage himself, you could always find Rob standing near one, listening to a blaring guitar solo or the beating thump of the bass and drums. The ultimate music fan, Rob rarely missed a concert and he proudly supported the local music scene for many years. It was during these musical journeys that Rob connected with like-minded individuals where he developed many lasting friendships. Never one to tour the music circuit alone, he was always with friends and he knew people everywhere he went. Friends were like family to Rob and he was never in short supply of fans' to hang out with. He was a rock and roll music aficionado with a knack for remembering minute details about musicians, bands, albums and tours. His knowledge of pop culture was remarkable, a true trivia king! Rob valued a good joke or a clever saying and his sarcastic wit was unrivalled by the best of them! He was always thinking of ingenious ways to conjure up a new story which led him to a course in broadcast journalism. This stop on his life world tour allowed him to embrace his creative side as he learned to write scripts for television and movies. He never gave up on his dream to continue writing... Rob lived his life by his own rules. In typical rock and roll fashion, he orchestrated his final performance, answering the roaring applause of his fans for one last encore. Rob graciously returned to the stage for 10 precious days, talking, joking and visiting with his close friends and family. When the fireworks were over, the curtains closed as he took his final bow, exiting the stage with grace, courage and dignity. A memorial service will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Thank you Rob for being you. Rock on. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to aportinthestorm.ca in honour of Rob. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949 - 2200 nbardal.mb.ca
