KATHLEEN BARBARA WHITE (nee DOWSLEY) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Barbara White, after a brief illness, at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the age of 52 years. Left to forever cherish Kathy's memory is her husband Charles and their children Alex, Laura and Andrew; her sister Marina McCaffrey (Shaun); niece Emily (Kris); nephews John and Robert; great-nephew Leo; as well as mother-in-law, Kay; sister-in-law Joanne (Nick) and their children Matthew and Braden all from Toronto. She was predeceased by her parents William and Louise Dowsley. Kathy was born in Toronto on November 12, 1958. After completing college, she began her career at the University of Toronto in the Department of Medicine. She and Charlie were married in Toronto in 1984, where their three children were born. In 1992, Kathy, Charlie and their family moved to Winnipeg. After many years at home with her children, Kathy enjoyed working at the Louis Riel School Division Board Office, in the accounting department where she made many friends. She had many interests; she enjoyed baking, was an avid reader, and as a young girl loved skiing and skating with her father. In her youth, Kathy played guitar, piano, and the organ and was also an avid photographer. She loved dogs, especially Milo, her beloved golden retriever. She loved swimming and the beach and was learning to golf so that she could spend more time with Charlie. However, Kathy's priority was always her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, Charlie and the children were the center of her life. She was always unfailingly polite and had a mildly self-deprecating sense of humour. Kathy was quiet and reserved, with an occasional burst of Irish temper. She was generous of spirit with a tender heart. Because of the many relatives in Ontario, there will be an additional memorial service in Toronto in the New Year. Everyone who knew Kathy will remember her great devotion and love for her family. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway with Rev. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert, presiding. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba and the staff at Health Sciences Centre. Donations in Kathy's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

  • Kathy, We hadn't been in touch for years and I was heart broken when I came across this page today. You were a part of my life growing up between grade 7-9, I still have fond memories of those years we shared so long ago. You were quiet, reserved, independent & kind, that's what made you so special. I remember sitting at your kitchen table after school drinking tea and eating crackers & peanut butter and talking for hours. I think of you often and I'm sorry that I didn't keep in touch.
