KAREN LORRAINE JOHNSON (KILPATRICK) May 9, 1948 - November 9, 2011 Karen Johnson (nee Kilpatrick) passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba after her battle with cancer. Karen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 9, 1948 and was the eldest daughter of Lorraine and Robert Kilpatrick. Karen married Leroy Johnson on July 21, 1973. She was a loving mother to her two sons David (Jennifer) and Jamie. She also cherished her only grandchild Benjamin, son of David. Kaytlyn, although not a relative, was very special to Karen and was viewed as her granddaughter. Karen is survived by her sister Kris Robins (David), her nephew Stephen Robins (Kim), and niece Tannis Goulet (Jason). Karen grew up in the Elmwood/East Kildonan area of Winnipeg, starting her journey on Melbourne Avenue, later moving to Fraser's Grove then raising her family on Larsen Avenue. Being a very kind and generous person, as a teen Karen volunteered her time at the hospital then at the schools of her children. She began her career in the bank industry and later found her calling as a stay at home mother to her two sons. Karen is known for her love of cooking, baking, gardening, jewelry and handbags. Karen had a soft spot for animals of all kinds but is known for her devotion to her many bunnies. You could always count on Karen to attend all family functions and really enjoyed having coffee with her many friends at the Norvilla Hotel in Winnipeg and at the A W or Half Moon in Lockport or her special dinners with family at Aaltos Windsor Park. Karen lived for her family and friends and her smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Karen's family would like to extend a huge thank you to the nursing and support staff of the third floor as well as Dr. D. Caners of Concordia Hospital. You all took very good care of her during her final days and allowed a strong woman to pass in private and with dignity. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Karen to CancerCare Manitoba. A service honouring her life is to be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
