DAVID KLASSEN On November 11, 2011, in his 91st year, peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, David Klassen, our beloved husband, father and Opa was called home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Kathleen, his two daughters Roma Niessen of Kelowna, BC and Rhonda (Ron) Neufeld of Winnipeg; as well as five grandchildren James, Jared (Rachel) and Jana Niessen, Christopher and Daniel Neufeld; and seven great-grandchildren Adam, Nick, Taya, Scot, Lucas, Kael and Eli Niessen. David also leaves to mourn his brother John; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives of the Klassen, Froese and Schellenberg families. David was born on March 12, 1921 in Gussarowka, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1924. He grew up in Manitou. In 1943 he moved to Winnipeg and was employed at Western Glove for 15 years and six years at Redekop Electric. After that he became a realtor and soon started his own company, Southboine Realty and Development. He will be remembered for his positive attitude and his keen sense of humour. He made people happy and everyone loved him. David was predeceased by his parents Rev. Gerhard G. and Elizabeth (Wiebe) Klassen; his first wife Helen Schellenberg in 1984; sisters Tina (Peter) Penner, Sara (Abe) Fast, and brothers Jacob, George (Elsie) and Peter Klassen and son-in-law Rudy Niessen. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Home Care and Riverview Health Centre. Viewing will be held from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Graveside interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 followed by a Celebration of David's life at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 or Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, R3T 5K9.
