CHARLOTTE ANNE HILTON (nee SAVAGE) October 5, 1955 - November 8, 2011 It is with the deepest sorrow that we, who loved her most, announce the passing of Charlotte Hilton on November 8, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital. She died peacefully and with dignity with her mother and husband beside her. Survived by her best friend, husband Steve of 31 years and mother Judy Savage, she also leaves to mourn brother-in-law Glenn Hilton (Judy) of Saskatoon, aunt Linda March (Bob) of Winnipeg and her numerous and very special nieces and nephews. They will all miss her greatly. Charlotte was born and raised in Winnipeg. She met Steve in high school and their first official date was to the High School graduation. After graduating from Elmwood High she went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba. Charlotte and Steve were married on July 26, 1980. Rather than relocating to complete her Masters degree in genetics Charlotte decided to enter the accounting field and attained her designation in 1981. Shortly after she became the controller at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and her love of the theatre and the arts grew. 1983 saw a move to Toronto and Charlotte continued in the arts world as controller/general manager at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. The Toronto performing art world was thriving and she was in the middle of it. She loved the energy of the professional community and the city. Circumstances returned us to Winnipeg in 1987, and she attained the position of finance officer for Canadian-Manitoba Cultural Industries Development Office (CIDO), whose mandate was to develop the film, video and sound recording industries in Manitoba. It was another successful and fulfilling period of personal and professional development where Charlotte took on more responsibilities. Other passions always drew Charlotte's interest, and in 1991 she became Director of Administration and Finance for the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment, the intergovernmental environment council for all the provincial environment ministers in Canada. It was while working at CCME that Charlotte was introduced to inter-jurisdictional legal matters. Yet another area of interest emerged. Charlotte decided to return to full time university studies in September 1997 and completed her law degree at the University of Manitoba. Her call to the Bar was 2001. Another great accomplishment. In 2001 with her finance and legal expertise, she was hired by the Province of Manitoba Department of Finance as a Treasury Board Analyst, then furthered her career as a senior taxation analyst in Federal-Provincial Relations and Research within the department. Because of her insatiable appetite for learning, her professional development continued in the form of related courses, professional memberships, and publication subscriptions. Over the years Charlotte was a volunteer board member for many regional associations, including treasurer for Prairie Theatre Exchange and Planned Parenthood Manitoba. Charlotte had many interests. She was the most avid reader of every genre, with several books on the go at all times. She had to know something about everything. If asked, she could have an educated opinion on everything. She and Steve loved to travel. They have travelled extensively in Canada, Europe and the U.S. (the favourites were the National Parks), including a recent cruise and land trip to Alaska. Her favourite place to revisit was the San Francisco area, the site of their honeymoon. Following her diagnosis in 2006 Charlotte joined a support group. As they say in this group, The value of the support and love of our families and friends, in addition to this sisterhood cannot be expressed in mere words. They all are fighting so hard and Charlotte truly missed her Tuesday ladies over the last few months. Our beloved Charlotte has fought so hard over the last six years and now has left us much too soon. She has accomplished so much but we had so much more to do. We will always reflect on her giving of herself, her spirit, her lust for life and awareness, and dedication to her family and all the right causes. We would like to especially thank Dr. Marianne Krahn, nurse Trez MacCormack and the staff at the St. Boniface CancerCare unit for all their care and support. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to World Wildlife Federation, CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
