ELAINE COLDRON It is with a deep sense of loss that the family of Elaine Coldron announces her passing on November 10, 2011 at the age of 91 years at St. Boniface Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 10 weeks. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Gale and son-in-law Murray; granddaughters, Jessica and Laura; sister-in-law Mary Macklin; nieces, Louise (Bert) Dacquay, Muriel (Alan) Wells, Dorothy (Ray) Browton, Millie Waddell, Shirley (Bob) Conibear, Sheila (Lorne) Dearsley, Lois Porter; and nephew Milton Macklin. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frederick Coldron; her parents, Clifford and Christena (nee Johnston) Jason; her stepfather Alexander McAuley; her stepsister Elva (Horace) White; and her stepbrother Stanley McAuley. Elaine was born on March 23, 1920 in Winnipeg. Her mother Christena was widowed in 1920 prior to Elaine's birth when her husband Clifford Jason died in the flu epidemic. Christena and baby Elaine moved to Pilot Mound so Christena could work as a housekeeper for Alexander McAuley whose wife Beatrice had also died in the flu epidemic in 1919, leaving two children, Elva and Stanley. Elaine's mother Christena Jason and Alexander McAuley were later married in 1924. Her mother died in 1948 and Elaine remained on the farm until the 1950s when she moved to Crystal City with her stepfather and stepbrother. Elaine married Frederick Coldron on November 21, 1959 in Glenora. Fred had a farm in Glenora where they resided following their marriage. They farmed for a year until Fred's asthma made it impossible to continue farming and then moved to Pilot Mound. Their only daughter Gale was born on March 18, 1962 and a few years later the family moved to Winnipeg. Elaine was a gifted cook and worked as a kitchen assistant at the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club for many years. Elaine was a kind and gentle soul whose incredible spirit enabled her to maintain a positive attitude despite facing many hardships. Elaine was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her granddaughters were a tremendous source of joy and she loved spending time with them. Elaine had a very strong faith and her Harrow United Church community was very important to her. She believed strongly in helping others and was an active volunteer at Harrow United Church, Agape Table and the Manitoba Society of Seniors over the years. Elaine was also an active member of the Victoria CC Over 50 Club and the Rockwood Seniors Group for many years where she enjoyed floor curling, darts and cards. Elaine participated in the Manitoba Senior Games as a member of a floor curling team for many years. In the last two years, Elaine lived at the Lindenwood Manor where she made many friends and enjoyed many activities. A memorial service will be held at Harrow United Church on Saturday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Teresa Moysey officiating. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elaine may be made to Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 1G8. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of 4E at St. Boniface Hospital for the kindness and care shown to Elaine. A Person So Very Rare She was a person so very rare, Whenever we needed her, she was always there. She shared our hopes, our joys, our tears, We are thankful for those precious years. Her life was unselfish, for others she lived Treasure her God, in Your Garden of Rest, For in our world, she was the best.
