MICHAJLO (MICHAEL) DEPUTAT November 20, 1919 - November 13, 2011 Peacefully on the morning of Sunday, November 13, 2011, one week short of his 92nd birthday, Michajlo Deputat, father and grandfather, passed away and joined his Lord in Heaven. Michajlo leaves to cherish his memory, his son Walter (Nancy Toews), daughter Olga (Ivan Banias), grandson Michael Banias (Laura Davey), brother Slavko and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins in Ukraine. Michajlo was predeceased by his first wife Katherine; second wife Mariya; parents, John and Irene; brothers, Wasyl, Dmytro and Mykola. Michajlo was born in the village of Vilshanytsya in the province of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. His early life was spent in school and working on his family's farm. At the commencement of the Second World War, Michajlo was conscripted into the Russian Army and sent to the front. Here, he was soon captured and spent the rest of the war in German labour camps. Upon liberation, Michajlo escaped into the English zone of occupied Germany to avoid being sent back to the Soviet occupied Ukraine. After spending time in Germany and England, Michajlo was sponsored to come to Canada, landing in Winnipeg in 1949. Here, Michajlo found work at the Dominion Motors garage. In 1950, he met and married Katherine Jamborko. Michajlo was an active member of the Ukrainian community, belonging to the Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita, Oseredok, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Seniors' Club Zoloti Vorota, the Ukrainian Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga and its Brotherhood. Michajlo enjoyed spending time outdoors; he loved to garden and tend his apple trees and took pleasure from blueberry and mushroom picking in the forests surrounding the Whiteshell. He also loved to spend some of his spare time doing repairs around his home and on his cars, as well as going to the local senior's club to talk with friends about recent events and politics. He also loved to watch hockey and football on the television. The family wishes to thank the ER and A4 staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their understanding and attention to our father. We also would like to express our great thanks to Rev. Taras Kowch, chaplain at Health Sciences Centre, and Msgr. Michael Buyachok for their prayers, support and strength. Divine Liturgy will celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral Restoration Fund.
