CLASTON EDWARD BENT 1926 - 2011 Edward passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre on Friday, November 11, 2011. He will forever live in the memories of his wife Celeste and son Gary, along with numerous relatives. One brother and one sister remain from ten, children of parents Emeline and Abraham Bent. Ed (Eddie) was well known by most people. He was born in Carlile, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on October 21, 1926. He came to Winnipeg for the purpose of furthering his education, and completed degrees in MA and M.Ed. He taught in Winnipeg and was Principal of Eriksdale Collegiate. Eddie was always involved in community activities. He loved gardening, especially budding and grafting fruit trees. Eddie was an affluent reader and would spend several hours at a time with the most difficult history books. Refusing a trip to Greece, he went to the library and selected books so he was able to join in conversations with those who visited Greece. The family of Ed extend their special gratitude to Dr. L. Robert Kroeker and Dr. Elizabeth Salamon, for the many years they had him under their care. We also thank the staff of Charleswood Care Centre for their compassion during his days there. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., at the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of the death of Claston, My father was Calvin Johnson (UK) he was Claston's cousin by his mother Grace Bent. I've been pursuing my family tree since my father's death Jan 2011. My dad gave me the names of Claston being a teacher, Maxi, Canute, Pearl and Mabel the other names he could not remember. He told me most of them left Jamaica and went to pursue their careers in USA. You have my deepest sympathy, they say who knows it feels it.......you never get over the death of a parent! - Posted by: Debi Johnson (Ancestor) on: Mar 03, 2012
