RUTH KIENETZ January 27, 1944 - November 14, 2011 Ruth was born and grew up in Hamburg, Germany, the daughter of Maria-Louise and Rolf Zimmermann. After her high school graduation and apprenticeship Ruth worked in Hamburg as a secretary, notably for Stern magazine. Ruth met Alvin Kienetz in Hamburg early in 1971 and they got married at the end of March of that year. Their first child, Helen was born one year later. A son, Martin (since deceased) followed in July 1973. In November 1974 Ruth immigrated to Canada, with her Canadian husband and their two children. They settled in Winnipeg, living first in the large house of Alvin's brother and mother, Alfred and Rosalie Kienetz, before moving to a house of their own at Ruby and Wolseley. A third child, Peter, was born in September 1978. Ruth and the children remained in Winnipeg except for two years in The Pas, where Alvin was employed as a teacher. Ruth was mostly kept busy raising the three children at home. She was a most loving mother. She also enjoyed her two dogs and the two song-birds Helen gave her several years ago. Ruth was a sensitive, soft-hearted person and the suffering of others, especially also the suffering of animals pained her very much. The sudden death of her first-born son Martin, in October 2004, left Ruth with an unending pain in her heart. Ruth leaves behind to mourn Alvin, her husband and father of her children, her daughter Helen, son Peter (now residing in London, England), brother-in-law Alfred, and her sister Sybill Olofsson in Germany. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and the many friends who had an opportunity to know her. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
