ROBERT HUGH CHRISTOPHER BEST VS DVM April 3, 1926 - November 14, 2011 Survived by his loving children Peri (nee Patricia), Garnet, Florence (Robert McGarvey) their mother Joan McCallum, and his second litter Brendan, Pamela (Marc Gingras) and their mother Dorine Best. Dear brother of Amy (Bill Wadley), the late Derek and his widow Eleanor (Marc Doucet). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Kier (Jill), Javid, Anya (Phil Brekkas), William, Evelyn, Zeke, Benjamin, Nicholas, Gabriel and Tristan, also by his great-grandchildren Liam and Shayla, and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), Hugh began his career as a small town veterinarian in Boissevain, MB and retired from Agriculture Canada where he made many wonderful and lasting friendships. Volunteer extraordinaire, Hugh was an active member of the parish of St. James, Manotick where he shared his love for singing and helped out wherever needed - Outreach, Parish Council. More recently he became a backstage fixture at the Ottawa Little Theatre. Passionate about the outdoors and avid fisherman, Dad flexed his writing muscles for the Brandon Sun and became a member of the Outdoor Writers of Canada. He was also a member of the Medical Historical Society and the Companions of the Quaich. Many thanks to Howard Cohen, his caring family physician. A memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 1138 Bridge Street, Manotick, ON, on Friday, December 2 at 3:30 p.m. A donation in his memory can be made to The Gainey Foundation, 1260 rue de la Gauchetiere West, Montreal, Quebec, H3B 5E8, supporting art and environmental programs for youth. He will be greatly missed by all he served.
