SALLY DAGMAR DURNIN (TURNLUND)
Date of Passing: Nov 16, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySALLY DAGMAR DURNIN (TURNLUND) Peacefully, and with great dignity, Sally passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Survived by her husband of 63 years, Cec Durnin; and her three children, Karen Richards (Henry Sewell), Andrea Sewell (Doug Sewell), Jeff Durnin (Karen Biliski); six grandchildren, Lisa Richards (Dave Mainprize), Kelly Brown (David Newman), Jonathan Richards (Chloe Lawrence), Rachel Smith (Scott Smith), Emily Durnin, and Laura Durnin. And of course her 12 great-grandchildren; Kai Newman, Livia Newman, Anna Belle Richards, Liam Smith, Julia Mainprize, Amelia Richards, Willa Smith, Eden and Lila Richards (twins), Hayden and Ryder Smith (twins), and Jamie Mainprize. Her two loving sisters, Elna Broddy and Florence Overgaard, also survive her. Her brother, George Turnlund, predeceased Sally in 2010. Sally was born in Eidsvol, Norway and arrived in Canada with her mother Sigrid, and sister Elna to meet her father, Martin Turnlund, who had emigrated earlier to make a home in Winnipeg. Growing up in the League of Nations that was Winnipeg's north end made for an interesting childhood. Like many young women of the day, she left school early and had many interesting jobs, including as a photographic model for Brigdens. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Cec, and made a warm, loving home for her family. She is largely responsible for the fine people her grandchildren have become. Sally was Grammie Sally to more than just her own family. Enjoying an early retirement, Cec and Sally enjoyed many winter holidays to Spain, England, Norway, Florida, Texas and California. They met many wonderful people in their travels, and made many great friends. The family is grateful to those at Oakview Place who have cared for Sally long term and especially the compassionate staff on 3 South at Grace Hospital for the tender loving care. A private family gathering will be held, and if friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to The Winnipeg Humane Society or The Christmas Cheer Board in Sally's name would be appreciated.
