LLOYD HENRY MCKAY Lloyd Henry McKay, age 68 years of Winnipeg and formerly of Thompson and Valley River, passed away suddenly November 11, 2011 at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Lloyd was born to Christine and Victor McKay at Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve, previously known as Valley River Reserve. He resided in his community until he was sent to the Assiniboine Residential School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lloyd met the love of his life in 1965 and they married on September 19, 1973. Lloyd and Rena spent 46 wonderful years together and had six children and adopted one son. Lloyd's career began in 1977 with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs for several years until medical reasons gave him no choice but to retire. He then did consultant work with various First Nations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He held a band councillor position for two years which led him to be the Chief of Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve from 2008-2010. Wake Services were held at Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve at the Chief Clifford Lynxleg Anishinabe School Gymnasium on November 16, 2011 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service was also held at Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve, November 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Fr. J. Cabral and Pastor Warren Ironstand officiating. Casket Bearers were. Honourary Bearers were. Interment was at Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve Cemetery. Surviving to mourn are his beloved wife, Rena McKay and children Gary (Murrium), Cindy (Darryl) Jacobson, Donna (Lance) McKay, Gordon (Sheila) McKay, Beverly (Leonard) McKay and Riley. Eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving, are his mother Christine McKay and sisters Caroline Burston, Gina (Bruce) McKay and Rose McKay, numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Lloyd was predeceased by his father Victor McKay, brothers Gordon and Alphonse Boss , sisters Joyce and Helen, brother-in-law Albert Burston, nephews Martin Burston and Jeff McKay, niece Jaime McKay and his son Lloyd McKay Jr. Baby Lloyd .
