MARIE ZAMMIT (BURNS) March 22, 1934 - November 16, 2011 God needed a party planned so at 4:00 a.m. on November 16, 2011 he called on mom. To her husband Charlie, of 52 years, she was McGee. To her daughters Kim and Kelly she was mom. Jim and Dave, her sons-in-law, called her Gee and to her grandchildren Nicole, Marlee, Jessica, Ryan, Carly and Jordan she was Gramma Gee. To her best friend and sister Betty and to her brother Billy she was Marie. Mom put up one heck of a fight with her battle against cancer. She fought exactly the way she lived her life - which was with dignity, courage, and a fierce determination. Mom worked at various jobs including Maritime Steel, Maritime Tel, Manufacturer's Life and in the early days she worked alongside dad helping him with his business ventures. Once they began their family mom stayed home, taking great pride in her job of raising the girls, taking care of Charlie and keeping the house. After 15 years mom decided to venture into the workforce and landed a job at Eaton's. She eventually moved on to work at Grace Hospital Psychiatric Ward where patients had the pleasure of mom's company as she sat with them keeping them safe. Eventually work got in the way of mom's social life so she left the workforce and volunteered as a Gold Wing Ambassador, proudly strutting her stuff at the Winnipeg Airport. Mom's passion for life was evident with her love of people, fashion, music, decorating, and walking. She appreciated her friends, family and her health and made the most of each day. To every healthcare professional who had a hand in providing care to mom we sincerely thank you and admire you for the work you do. To each person who provided support whether it was food, a card, a call or a prayer, thank you. The family continues to be overwhelmed with how one person could have such a tremendous impact on the lives of so many. We were blessed to have had mom in our life and will work hard to be the family she was so intensely proud of. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. A service to celebrate mom's life will be held at: Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Avenue, Monday, November 21, 2011, 11:00 a.m.
