Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOY MAYBELLE PATERSON (nee ASHTON) Peacefully, at the Simpkin Centre on the 14th of November, 2011. Born in 1924 in London, Ontario, to Milton and Marjorie Ashton. As a child, Joy lived in Kenora, Winnipeg, and Calgary. She worked in a Ottawa hospital upon graduation from the University of Manitoba to complete her internship as a Dietician. As a young bride, she moved again to Montreal and then Oakville, before returning to Winnipeg in 1952 with her husband Alec. She is survived by her brothers: Jim and Bob Ashton, and their families; and by her four sons, Gordon (Judy) in Calgary, Ted (Gayle Hermick) in Geneva, Jim (Diane) in Kelowna and Doug (Brenda Mignon) in Winnipeg. She leaves her four grandchildren: Lyndsey, Alex, Lauren and Erik. As a committed volunteer, Joy was active in several organizations. She was a member, and held the role of President of the Council of Women, and, as a Rotary Inner Wheel. Upon retirement, Joy and Alec spent many warm winters in their home in Florida, where they were avid tennis players. She also spent many happy hours at the bridge table with friends and family, and in the last few years with her fellow residents at The Wellington. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date, but, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to: The A.R.
