BRANDUR (LEFTY) GOODBRANDSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Brandur (Lefty) Goodbrandson. Dad passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital surrounded by his family on November 17, 2011, at the age of 84. He will be forever missed by his daughters, Wendy (Murray), Jill (Rob); son, Dean (Kim); grandchildren, Brandur, Brett, Riley, Annika; and sister, Allie Huggard of Alberta. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverley (nee Waterman); parents, Gudbrandur and Alfheidur; and brothers, Siggi, Johnny, Kris and Buddy. Dad was born on November 26, 1926, and has been a lifelong resident of Selkirk. In Dad's early years he had numerous jobs at Fairfields, M.R.M., Booth Fisheries and managed a Shell Service Station. As well, he was a fisherman on Lake Winnipeg and he cut and delivered ice to local residents. In 1955, he founded Goodbrandson's, Transfer which he ran successfully as his family business until he retired in 1988. He was a member of Manitoba Trucking Association, Kinsmen Club, K-40 Club, Selkirk Curling Club, Selkirk Golf and Country Club and an Executive Member of the Selkirk Steel Kings Hockey Team. Dad was also a proud veteran of the Second World War. Throughout Dad's life, he enjoyed curling and golfing. His love of sports, lead him to become an avid fan of his children and grandchildren. He watched them play many sports and followed them no matter where it took him across Canada and the U.S. Dad respected life and all whom he came in contact with. He was very proud of his family, his Icelandic heritage, being a lefthander and being a Chrysler owner. Dad valued all friendships he made throughout the years. We have been truly blessed to have had such a powerful influence in our lives. Our family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to family and friends, for their love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Lindenschmidt, the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and to the homecare workers who provided the support which allowed us to keep our dad at home as long as possible.
