RUTH BRAUN DYCK Ruth, dear and loving wife to Richard, was sung home to God's eternal, loving care on November 18, 2011, at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg. Ruth was the third child to Abram and Maria Braun, born on February 19, 1929, near Waskada, Manitoba. Soon after, the drought and depression of the 1930s forced the family to move to a new homestead south of Grunthal, MB. Here Ruth learned much about how to make do with little. In her young adult years, Ruth worked as a domestic in Winnipeg, and for a short time in the Eaton's restaurant. Ruth's Christian faith and church life were very important to her. She was baptized at Bethel (Mission) Mennonite Church, on June 1, 1951. Through mutual friends and seasonal work in Aylmer, Ontario, she met her future husband, Richard. They were married on May 4, 1952, at the Spencer Bergthaler Church near Grunthal, MB. Ruth's love for children only deepened as she raised her own family of three boys and two girls. Ruth had a special place in her heart for kids who faced extra challenges. In this way especially, Ruth strived to model her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Her love and care for the most vulnerable was her special ministry. Even as she cared for foster and daycare children, she always managed to put a meal on the table when her teen and young adult children would unexpectedly bring home friends. Ruth accumulated several chronic and serious health conditions over her lifetime. Her spirit has now mercifully wrestled free of her physical struggles, and she will suffer no more. Ruth is survived by Richard, her loving husband of 59 years; five children, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Donald (Pearl), Naomi, Jesse, Joel, Tamara; Dennis (Cheryl): Matthew, Suzanne, Laura, Janice; Daniel (Laura): Selena, Caley; Bonnie Klassen: Kristopher (Jaclyn), Julia; Candice Sutherland (Mike), Madison, Cara; Roxy Stumph (Brian), Nicole. Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Daniel, in infancy; her parents Abram and Maria (Buhler) Braun; and her youngest sister, Margaret. The family would like to thank Ruth's home care workers, caregivers at Donwood Manor, where she resided since 2008, the staff at Concordia Hospital N1S who cared for her during her final illness, and the many family and friends who visited during her last days. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 23 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, with interment at Grunthal Cemetery. Viewing prior to the service. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to Back to the Bible, Box 700, Chatham, Ontario N7M 5K8 We will love you forever.
