Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS HAYHURST (HNATIW) October 1, 1930 - November 19, 2011 It is with great sadness the family and friends of Phyllis announce her passing on November 19, 2011, after a one year battle with cancer. Born to Wasyl and Julia Hnatiw of Oakburn, she got her schooling at a county school, Zaporaza, north of Oakburn. She started working at the restaurant in Oak River, MB where she met Penrith (Penny) Hayhurst. They married in 1950, lived in Virden where Penny was employed with Paul's Hauling. They were blessed with an only child, a son, Penrith Thomas (Tom) in 1955. Because of the demand from Penny's work, they relocated to Winnipeg where Phyllis lived until her passing. After Tom was born Phyllis did sewing at home, babysitting, and later worked at the warehouse for Robinson Little until the company closed. She was suddenly widowed in 1977, and so shared her home with her son. She re-married in 1983 to Peter Rechik. Phyllis was also predeceased by her parents and four siblings, two sisters and two brothers. Phyllis loved to travel and dance, and her generosity and kindness was overwhelming to anyone that came to her home. A loyal and loving wife, mother, and friend, she will be greatly mourned by her husband Peter, son Tom, and special friends Catherine Auckland of Victoria, and Pat Michie of Winnipeg. In keeping with Phyllis' wishes a gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of Phyllis, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society.
