EDWIN GEORGE SUTHERLAND Peacefully, on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Edwin George Sutherland passed away at the age of 83 years. Edwin is survived by his wife Frances (McKaughan); children: Ron (Brenda) and their children, Adam and Megan; Sandra Baron (Terry) and their children, Jessica and Samantha; Lynn Willis (Gary) and their children, Jackie, Nicole (Nathan) Morin, their children, Logan and Lauren; Donna Sutherland (Bruce), children, Amanda, Nick and Kate Mellof; David (Colleen); and Tim (Marianne) and their son Tyler; sister Thelma Bell and sister-in-law Marjorie Sutherland as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Elsie; father Reg; brother Lyall; in-laws, Hazel and George McKaughan, sister-in-law Joyce McKaughan; brothers-in-law Ken McKaughan and Ollie Bell. He was born on July 23, 1928 in Selkirk, Manitoba and attended Meadowdale, Norwood and Clandeboye schools. He worked on the family farm and his first job was a spare driver for the Interlake Milk Truck. He then went on to work for Winnipeg Transit in March of 1953, training on the streetcars, he drove trolleys before diesel buses and retired in 1986 after 33 years of service. Edwin and Frances married on August 8, 1953 and lived in Winnipeg before moving to Clandeboye in 1957 to raise their family and farm. After retirement, Ed and Fran traveled from coast to coast in Canada, North to Alaska, south to Florida and Mexico and across the big water to the British Isles. Ed loved woodworking, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and the occasional drink. He loved to visit and talk with everyone he met. He had a stroke in June 2010 and spent two and a half months in Teulon Hospital before taking residence in Red River Place Personal Care Home, Selkirk until his passing. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Red River Place and the Emergency at Selkirk General Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB, with The Ven. Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Interment will follow the service in the St. George's Wakefield Cemetery.
