OLGA MEMRICK On November 20, 2011, Olga Memrick passed away peacefully with her son John by her side. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and other family members. She was the last surviving family member of her generation. Born in Kryvenke, Povit Husiatyn, Ukraine, on December 18, 1910 to Theodore and Tekla Baydack. She had three sisters, Katerina, Antonia and Malania; and two brothers, Millan and Robert. After completing her course at Success Business College, Olga was a paralegal for Mary A. Wawrykow, who later became a Provincial Court Judge. She also worked as a paralegal for Myron J. Ogaranko for numerous years. Olga Baydack and Maxim John Memrick were married on October 3, 1931 and they had one son John Robert. Maxim passed away suddenly on April 30, 1963. Although she was a single parent she still found the time to be active in the Ukrainian Community. She was one of the founding members of the St. Vladimir College Parent's Committee, President and life member of the Canadian Ukrainian Athletic Club (CUAC), President of Progress Credit Union Board of Directors and was a member of the Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary. Having an interest in politics, she was elected and served for two terms as School Trustee of the Winnipeg School Division, 1969 to 1971 and represented the School Division on the Greater Winnipeg Safety Council, chaired the Board's Manitoba Centennial Committee and made many other contributions. Olga, an active member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Winnipeg, sang in the church choir and in 1966 joined the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada. Olga was proud to be a UCWLC member and served as Branch President for one year 1969 to 1970 and was President of the UCWLC Winnipeg Region for two years 1974 to 1976. On December 18, 2010, Olga celebrated her 100th birthday; she received numerous birthday wishes from various dignitaries. In her 100th year, she was still living in her own home with her son John, who looked after her along with the assistance of homecare workers and nurses. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with Reverend Father Bohdan Lukie, CSsR, officiating.
